play them for an hour every year or 2 will be more than enough.

1 hour of device use is enough to fully reform the electrolytic capacitors?

it takes very many years to depolarise a standard cap - your being fearmongered by assholes on other forums.

the type of equipment where we need to worry about such stuff is from the 1970's or older

                    ... electrolytic capacitors will ... depoarize ...
Ignoring the missing "l" (adjacent key errors are my frequent typo type), polarized (= normal) electrolytic capacitors don't depolarize. Very long non-use might lead to the aluminum oxide dielectric layer thinning (probably years of non-use, possibly excepting some cap types with water-based electrolytes), decreasing the voltage the part can withstand, but depolarization won't happen. Being polarized is part of the nature of an aluminum oxide layer dielectric.

Electronic devices that use electrolytic capacitors from the early 90's need to be turned on at what frequency of time interval to prevent failures from disuse? i have crt tv, snes, megadrive, ps2 slim, power supply

not are new capacitors are capacitors 90s

Does this information only work on new electrolytic capacitors and not on electrolytic capacitors manufactured in the early 90's and early 2000's and assembled in electronic circuits?

And in 1986, these electrolytic capacitors were no longer new and it is necessary to do what the instructions recommend.

                                    Manufacturing Date of Electrolytic capacitor
                                    by AleXis6
Guys. could you help me please to decode some codes of main capacitor's producers.
I would like to know the manufacturing date.

Based on the information from capacitors I have - it seems easy to decode manufacturing date for Rubycon, Nichicon.

                                    If I understood correctly:
                                    1. Nichicons marks date of production as (see the attached pictures) H2116
I don't understand the meaning of first letter - may be it is code of factory.

                                    I bought this capacitor recently.

Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

                                    Hi all,

I have a faulty monitor, the surface mount electrolytic capacitor 33uF 100V needs to be replaced, now I can't seem to source them locally, so my question is can I replace it with a through-hole electrolytic capacitor of the same value? Or has someone got a better suggestion?

Anyone had a solid polymer capacitor fail for whatever reason?

How do they fail? Do they explode, go open, short out, ?

How about for different reasons: forcing excessive ripple current, overheating, voltage too high, reverse voltage?

Just wondering about the causes for a potential shorted solid polymer capacitor... trying to debug a board that has a ~4Ω "short" on a track... it may or may not be a capacitor but was wondering what if it were...
